What is Loadsmart?

Loadsmart is an American company that creates technology solutions for the logistics industry, serving carriers, shippers, and facilities. They operate an internal brokerage enabled by digital tools, and they also develop tech tools to enhance other companies' operations.

I worked as a product designer for two related teams that the main goal was to improve the sourcing process for Carrier Sales Representatives.

The Carrier Management tool was invisioned to help Carrier Sales Representatives see all their current carrier portfolio and active contracts, enabling them to make better and smarter decisions

Loadsmart aims to enhance service quality for top shippers through improved carrier selection. We recognize the significance of carrier profiles in our internal platform but acknowledge existing issues:

  • Outdated technology (Django)

  • Inadequate information structure

  • Poor UX/UI

  • Ambiguity in compliance details

  • Insufficient actionable data for decision-making

  • Performance issues affecting usability and productivity

Addressing these concerns was crucial to provide better service and mitigate risks associated with carrier selection, ensuring enhanced revenue opportunities and safeguarding important accounts. With that in mind, we decided to revamp the page.

Challenge

Revamping process

The carrier profile page is a crucial component in how the Carrier Sales team finds trucks to transport goods. The revamping of the page involved several weeks of discovery and interviews to gain a deep understanding of the team's process and the problems they faced with the outdated page. To achieve our goal, we conducted interviews with 10 individuals and held 2 workshops

Information architechture

Defining the hierarchy, stood out as the most crucial process in this project. We needed to analyze every page, flow, and possible interaction.

This page demands critical information promptly for making the best decisions when assigning loads to carriers. Hence, ensuring the most crucial information is placed upfront was essential

Final Solution

The carrier profile page is packed with lots of complicated info that users should easily understand.

For someone unfamiliar with the industry, it might seem a bit overwhelming, with tons of information. But that's the idea: giving users a bunch of info at once so they can make quick decisions without clicking around a lot. We did usability tests with users to make sure this is what they wanted.

The initial page serves as the user's first encounter upon opening the Carrier Profile. It strategically presents crucial information upfront, including eligibility details, MC and DOT information, headquarters data, compliance details, as well as pertinent notes and contacts. These key elements for efficient load sourcing are prioritized to guarantee users promptly access the information they need right from the start.

Within the profile, the Compliance tab is a vital resource tailored for Carrier Sales Representatives. This specialized section is meticulously crafted to provide these Reps with immediate access to critical compliance details essential for their daily operations.
